On March 28th, the Jaguar Club of Houston held its second annual day at the Houston Zoo for Club members and their families, as part of the Club’s ongoing program to support the Jaguar habitat at the Houston Zoo.
The event included a special tour and keeper talk, lunch, and a chance to win a painting by one of the Houston Zoo Jaguars.
Over the last four years, the Jaguar Club of Houston has helped raise in excess of $5,000 in support of the Jaguar habitat at the Houston Zoo.
Head Carnivore Keeper, Sara Riger, thanked the Club for its 2010 donation and being part of the special day at the Zoo and said she looked forward to exploring future opportunities with the Jaguar Club of Houston.
In 2010, the Houston Zoo’s jaguar exhibit has undergone a major renovation. The Zoo’s two jaguars, Kam Balam and Cocoy, have more space, a new waterfall and a new pool. Additionally, the exhibit area’s glass panels have been replaced with easy-to-see-through wire mesh.
In 2007, Sara’s counterpart, Kevin Hodge, addressed the JCNA Annual General Meeting in Houston about the need to preserve Jaguar habitat and the important role that zoos play in this overall conservation effort.
